Microtubule dynamics in living cells is regulated by a number of
accessory proteins, and defects in those enzymes can lead to severe
diseases (for a start, cf. Ebbing et al., Hum. Mol. Genet. (2008)
17:1245-52). We are studying the mechanics of such enzymes, and are
looking for a Ph.D. student who is (i) interested in characterizing
such enzymes at the molecular, preferentially single-molecule level.
(ii) A second position is open for students interested in studying the
function of such enzymes in C.elegans.
We can offer an exciting, supportive and scientifically excellent
environment equipped with advanced instrumentation for single-molecule
studies, microscopy, as well as for “classical” kinetic experiments.
Facilities for C.elegans available. Ph.D. can be obtained in
(Bio-)Physics, Biochemistry or Biology. Feel free to ask for details.
